LA-based organization Freewaves is turning 20, and in true agitprop spirit, it's hijacking LACMA in the middle of its Late Night Art Event to throw itself a birthday party. But instead of candles, the evening is aglow with nearly two-dozen pieces of experimental media, some of which can be found in Freewaves' anniversary book and DVD. The evening's collection of images is split thematically into four categories — Squirm, Trouble, Pop Cop, Dual/Duel — and runs on continuous loops via monitors in the north piazza.

LACMA says…

Freewaves Executive Director Anne Bray says:

We chose to present videos unconstrained by conventions, to create meaning across community divides. The videos cross political, geospatial and temporal boundaries, gathering local and international viewpoints to assess art's role in challenging racism, sexism and classism.
