Julien Nitzberg's documentary The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia is something like an amusing, feature-length episode of A&E's Intervention. But the film is much more than a fascinating portrait of a dangerous, drug-addled Appalachian family; it's an invitation into a group of people whose proud performative roots — and accompanying artistic temperaments — have served to only further isolate them from the rest of their community. The result is an intimate look at an endearingly unconventional family, but without the usual lens of moral superiority.

Tribeca Film Festival Senior Programmer Genna Terranova says:

Shoot-outs, robberies, gas-huffing , drug dealing, pill popping, murders, and tap dancing - what do these all have in common? These are just a few of the parts of being a member of the wild and wonderful White family.
