At a Hollywood Bowl press luncheon earlier this summer, Gustavo the Great announced his plans for his second season in the role as Music Director of the LA Philharmonic. On the top of his list: his modern take on perhaps the world's most popular opera: Bizet's Carmen. So what do we know about tonight's performance? Not much—except that it'll open with Natasha Petrinksy singing the title role, backing from the Los Angeles Children's Chorus, and feature more of the 30 year-old Venezuelan's signature musical genius and gift for surprising audiences.

The tragedy of Carmen and her lovers has become one of the most popular operas of all time. For his first opera in Los Angeles, our dynamic maestro conducts this concert production, with an international cast of rising stars.

This concert benefits the Los Angeles Philharmonic Musicians Pension Fund. Our thanks to the Philharmonic musicians for contributing their services this evening.
