It's hard to believe that just 15 years ago, the Bergamot Station Art Center was a near-abandoned train yard. What was once just a musty archipelago of empty metal sheds has since morphed into an international art-circuit destination, home to dozens of galleries and arts-related enterprises, the Santa Monica Museum of Art, and, soon, New York powerhouse Matthew Marks. But for now, it's time to celebrate what the denizens of the last 15 years have accomplished, as the kunsthalles in question uncharacteristically coordinate their new shows to open (with few exceptions) on Saturday evening. Among the big guns on display to launch the new Fall season, look for David Trulli's haunting, stylish scratch-board masterpieces at Robert Berman; sculptor Woods Davy's graceful sculptural suspensions and Beat legend George Herms doing as he pleases at Craig Krull; and a fresh edition of Mark Moore's annual Ultrasonic international survey of new art. Devin Troy Strother's Anselm Kiefer-on-LSD mixed-media paintings at Richard Heller; punk-rock photography at Track 16; and new shows at both Sam Freeman Gallery and SMMoA that open on Friday night.

Bergamot Station Arts Center says…

Since its launch, Bergamot Station has become a popular destination for visitors from around the country and the world. Bergamot Station provides a central location which allows visitors to park in one place and spend the day seeing art, rather than spending time driving from one gallery to the next. It now appears in every guide to Los Angeles as a primary cultural destination, with well over 600,000 visitors each year.
