“Based on the '80s horror film of the same name, Re-Animator: The Musical is a blood-spattering farce of unexpected craft and sophistication. The front-row "splash zone" promises ample blood-soaking, with complimentary plastic trash bags provided. Lurking beneath the kitsch-infused hi-jinx and mayhem, there's a multifaceted depth that comes from the performers, music, and story — as with most shows at the Steve Allen Theater. The live music and brilliant cast scores Re-Animator: The Musical two thumbs up; if you count the bloody, severed thumb, then it's three.”
In 1985, Stuart Gordon directed his first feature film and created a sensation. It was “Re-Animator,” a smashing success based on a horror story by H.P. Lovecraft. The film delivered as many laughs as it did screams making it a cult classic among horror fans and winning a Critic’s Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Now, Gordon is back with his co-writers Dennis Paoli and William J. Norris and composer/lyricist Mark Nutter to turn “Re-Animator” into a musical for the stage.
