The Eat Real Festival started in Oakland in 2008 to celebrate food and beverages made with local, sustainable, and healthy ingredients. This weekend, the festival makes its Los Angeles debut with a wide array of deliciousness on offer. Food is available from local food trucks and restaurants, including Coolhaus, Nom Nom, and Global Soul, while several beer and wine gardens provide wine and locally crafted brews from the likes of Eagle Rock Brewery and the Lost Abbey. A panel discussion on "The Future of Food Writing" features several local food bloggers and writers, while learning opportunities abound, include instruction in goat-cheese making, urban beekeeping, and growing food in limited spaces. With no food or drink costing more than $5, it's an easy way to be both educated and indulgent.

Helms Bakery District says…

Tacos inspired by flavors from around the world, curry, BBQ, hot dogs, ice cream, noodles, and a whole lot more of LA's awesome curbside eats. The Eat Real Festival celebrates all things tasty, fresh, and handmade with a focus on street food, local wines, handcrafted beers, and traditional food craft – all featuring sustainable, local ingredients. And no dish or drink costs more than $5. But eating is only part of the fun. We also show you how to make it and grow it. From home cheesemaking to backyard chickens, you can explore a DIY lifestyle with demos and activities galore. Or just grab a taco and a beer and enjoy our full schedule of entertainment with bands, butchery contests, lit fest, and other tasty tidbits.
