Ben Sollee has a quietly tuneful voice similar to Paul Simon's conversational pitter-patter. The Lexington, Ky., native is a studio-session cellist with solid classical leanings who has toured with the worldly folkies of Sparrow Quartet (Abigail Washburn and Béla Fleck). Certainly 2010's Dear Companion - on the Sub Pop label, produced by My Morning Jacket's Jim James - was a mix of minimalist Appalachian bluegrass and maximal orchestral pop. Now Sollee, on his new album, Inclusions, raises the bar (and the volume) just a bit, sounding bluesy and soul-struck. - A.D. Amorosi, Philadelphia Enquirer
