The exhibition features twenty-eight photographs from [Rhona] Bitner's ongoing Listen series, a striking body of work devoted to the continued exploration of significant sites in American music history in their present condition—from Electric Lady Studios and CBGB in New York to the Sound Factory and Whisky A Go-Go in Los Angeles, with stops at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit and Chicago's Chess Records. Accompanied by a brochure with an essay by musician Lenny Kaye, long-time collaborator and guitarist for the Patti Smith Group, and paired with Lou Reed's immersive sound installation MM3: The Creation of the Universe in UAM's special project room, Bitner's sites, stages and studios in Static Noise become atmospheric symbols for the sound and experience of composition, creativity, performance and spectacle.
