“Since 1975, Los Angeles Filmforum has aimed to bring greater recognition to independent film as an art form, with a focus on documentaries, video art, animation, and other experimental treatments of the moving image. Held in conjunction with Pacific Standard Time, Alternative Projections deals with the "art film" as a phenomenon in post-World War II Los Angeles. To coincide with Valentine's Day, LA Filforum presents an adult-themed examination of modern sexcapades: Sex Roles & Rules: Gender, Liberation, and Sexuality. Filmforum continues with the Alternative Projections series through May, 2012.”
Just in time for Valentine’s Day we look at an array of liberated works exploring definitions, meanings, representations, and interactions of women and men. Storytelling about past experiences; performances; a documentary ahead of its time; social conflicts. Are men and women fundamentally different? What is gender? Concluding with Chick Strand’s masterpiece Soft Fiction. And yes, plenty of nudity and adult behavior as well. There are a large number of great works that focus on these themes.
