“Taking its name from musica da camera (a 17th-century Italian term for chamber music), the Da Camera Society uncovers hidden SoCal gems with Chamber Music in Historic Sites, a live performance series that pairs classical music with, you guessed it, historic sites. Past seasons of the Da Camera Society's unique programming have brought music to the halls of the Bradbury Building, the LAPD headquarters, the habitats at the LA Zoo, and the Eisen and Hunt-designed Doheny Mansion, which boasts a magnificent Tiffany glass ceiling, not to mention unique acoustics. Now, Ensemble La Morra play the Pratt House in Sierra Madre.
"Tears of a Lion: A Secret Concert for Pope Leo X" "Since God has given us the Papacy, let us enjoy it!" (Pope Leo X). While posterity may primarily remember Pope Leo X for his extravagant lifestyle, he was also a noteworthy patron of the arts and a man of great sensitivity for music. In a secluded and lavishly adorned Mediterranean mansion truly fit for a prince of the church, Ensemble La Morra brings to life one of Leo's private concerts by his musici segreti (secret musicians) including some of the finest musicians of his era. "La Morra sets a new standard for performing this repertory, producing a rendition that seems entirely natural...." (medieval.org). Pratt House is set amongst three acres of abundant, contrasting, and imaginative gardens, from a Tropical Garden to a formal Italian Garden. Explore the gardens before and after the concerts - garden docents will be on hand to assist. L. A. Debut! Light Reception.
