Venue_writeup_open_quotes Built in 1922 by showman and impresario Sid Grauman, the Egyptian Theater was the site of Hollywood's first movie premiere, Robin Hood. The American Cinematheque purchased the Egyptian in 1996, facilitating a $12.8 million restoration of the theater's Egyptian Revival architecture. Since then, it's been the go-to spot for rare screenings, retrospectives, and film festivals, as well as the weekly Outfest, screened in the building's smaller Steven Spielberg theater.
