The Miami Art Museum's MAC@MAM program launches its first much-anticipated exhibit: 11 installations by husband-and-wife team Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller. The title piece is based on Kafka's short story In der Strafkolonie, which revolves around a penal colony's barbarous torture machine. All Cardiff and Miller's works pack a truly visceral punch, using sound, film, and raw material to create utterly absorbing, three-dimensional environments. The show also includes the couple's Paradise Institute — a film screening that implicates viewers as witnesses to a crime — which was selected to represent Canada at the 49th Venice Biennale.
