Abrogating cultural stereotypes is certainly one of Quisqueya Henriquez's central goals. But, more interestingly, the Cuban-Dominican artist, who currently has a major survey at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, has a knack for embracing her environment and, through various mediums, extracting its essence: the colors, tastes, scents, and textures of a particular place. Her body of work is vast and multidisciplinary, including photographs, installations, sculptures, drawings, videos, and even light/sound pieces.
