Yui Kugimiya has a keen sense of nature's splendor and chaos. For her second solo show at Ingalls, the young, Tokyo-born artist creates texture-rich paintings that seem to have been made by a capricious feline, mixing forceful strokes of paint with clumps of fur and thread. Kugimiya tries to control her materials, yet they still end up succumbing, as it were, to the laws of entropy — a glorious maelstrom of color and form.
