Art Gods and Heroes: The Painting and Sculpture of Sandro Chia

A medley of influences and art-historical references appear in Sandro Chia's oeuvre, but most important is his affinity for mythic symbolism and figuration, expressed in bucolic, color-saturated environments filled with fanciful mortals, gods, and goddesses. Associated with the Transvanguardia movement, the painter, printmaker, and sculptor is, along with Francesco Clemente, one of the more well-known living Italian artists. His survey at the Boca Raton Museum of Art features more than 30 paintings and works on paper created over the last seven years, along with eight monumental bronze sculptures installed outdoors in Mizner Park.
