More Flavor: Lecture Art and Wine Lecture Series: Gustav Klimt

A noted fin de siècle Austrian Symbolist, Gustav Klimt is best known for the gold-tinged, Byzantine-like mosaic patterns bedecking the many females he has depicted. At the same time, seminal works like The Kiss and Adele Bloch-Bauer I helped epitomize the Art Nouveau movement in Vienna, referred to as the Vienna Secession. Klimt's remarkable oeuvre is composed of a variety of art objects, murals, sketches, and numerous paintings; and while there are several noticeable influences in his work — from late medieval European painting to Japanese ukiyo-e prints — ultimately, he created an aesthetic that is very much his own. This evening, educator and art historian Armando Droulers gives a lecture on the artist as part of the ArtCenter's Art and Wine series.
