Lincoln Theatre says…

Hold on to your pants. Tonight, the New World Symphony bypasses the "classical" classical in favor of Iannis Xenakis' Persephassa, Alejandro Viñao's Estudios de Frontera, and George Antheil's Ballet mécanique. The first work on the program explores the Greek Persephone myth (which explains the four seasons) with six percussionists who perform in and around the audience. The second is an homage to Conlon Nancarrow, the great experimentalist composer best known for his works for player piano. Last comes Antheil's famed ballet, originally scored for a totally automated orchestra of player pianos and airplane propellers, performed live here tonight by the symphony.
