Another good reason to go to the Miami Art Museum (beside the excellent Janet Cardiff/George Bures Miller show) is to check out the screening of Bruce Conner's Eve Ray Forever, a more recent video adaptation of his 1965 three-screen 8mm film Three Screen Ray. In this new installation, the center monitor plays the artist's 1962 piece, Cosmic Ray — an experimental short amalgamating images of nude females, cartoons, and atomic-bomb explosions — accompanied by Ray Charles' hit song What I'd Say. Meanwhile, portions of Cosmic Ray have been reassembled with additional vintage footage on the two side monitors, while all the videos are programmed to repeat automatically — each running at different lengths — thus creating a dreamy, black-and-white, and infinitely varying combination of images.
