Performing Arts: Theatre Refugee

The Carnival Center has commissioned local Haitian American playwright Marc Joseph to draw upon his own immigrant experience to write Refugee. Featuring the music of local Haitian group Ayabonmbe, the play centers on a Haitian protest singer named Ludovic, who comes to Miami only to encounter the alienation and misunderstanding that most immigrants encounter once they begin chasing the so-called American dream. The play makes for a nuanced take on just how absurd and oppressive that experience can be.
