The vast difference between urban and country life is essential to Jason Middlebrook's work, as is the world's supposed tendency towards disorder. Of his paintings, those depicting intricate constellations of lights viewed from afar are particularly strong, while his sculptural interpretations of Warhol's Brillo boxes are also quite clever. The artist covers some in sullied polystyrene and artificial plants and repurposes others as the seat of a pallet chair, for instance.
