An exceptional baritone who has collaborated with several jazz masters, Kurt Elling is consistently ranked as one the best and most innovative American jazz vocalists of his time. Most discernibly influenced by poet and singer Mark Murphy, Elling has seven Grammy nominations and seven albums on Blue Note (his latest, Nightmoves, was released on Concord this year). Not only is Elling deftly capable of reinterpreting standards by Frank Sinatra, Betty Carter, and Duke Ellington, he has also written new lyrics to originally wordless jazz classics, such as Coleman Hawkins' earthy and timeless "Body and Soul."
