Art Art Students League of New York: Highlights from the Permanent Collection

One of the country's oldest art schools, the Art Students League of New York has been around since 1875, is still run by artists, and prides itself on having an alumni list featuring some of the most important names in American art — from Louise Bourgeois to Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock. This new exhibit at Lowe — with 75 paintings, works on paper, and sculptures culled from the League's permanent collection — is a stunning walk through the latter eras of American art history. Containing everything from 19th-century figure drawings to mid-20th-century abstract expressionism and works by contemporary students and instructors, this its an extremely notable compendium of the last 125 years of American art.
