Music: Classical The Fantastic Symphony

Tonight the New World Symphony presents three separate pieces, chosen specifically for their passionate intensity. Georges Bizet's suite from Carmen opens the performance with its sultry, Spanish-influenced rhythms. Led by NWS' conductor and founder, Michael Tilson Thomas, the piano duo of sisters Katia and Marielle Labèque follows with Francis Poulenc's Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra. The main piece, Hector Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, wraps up the evening with a buoyant performance expressing the composer's longing for a lover that he cannot possess.
