Noted playwright and first-time screenwriter Kelly Masterson teams up with no-slouch director Sidney Lumet and a handful of top-drawer actors — Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Marisa Tomei, and Albert Finney — in this claustrophobic, suspenseful morality tale, in which petty jealousies, affairs, and appetites lead to murder and a family's undoing. Lumet turns the screws of tension throughout, revelling in the nonlinear story about a bungled jewelry-store robbery that leads to a "reap what you sow" scenario that would make the ancient Greeks proud.
