When Miami-based criminal-defense attorney James Grippando created his Jack Swyteck character back in 1994, few people — let alone the author himself — thought the accidental operative worthy of a reprise, which is probably why his next five thrillers were stand-alones. When Grippando returned to Swyteck in 2002's Beyond Suspicion, however, it became clear this was a character that could be reprised ad infinitum. Last Call, the latest in the Swyteck series, finds the wily one on the right side of another very wrong crime — only this time, he's got a hot FBI agent on his ass, and a best friend's hangs life in the balance.
