Jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut takes a seat behind the Bösendorfer tonight at Arturo's. Chestnut has done everything from popular outings with Isaac Hayes and Bette Midler to big-band stints with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and sideman gigs with Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, and Chick Corea. Blending his church-hymn upbringing with the blues tradition and acrobatic, straight-ahead virtuosity, Chestnut's sound is simultaneously simple and profound.
