Design Miami's top-notch international fair has been so successful and influential in the high-end design world that it recently inaugurated a European edition in Basel, Switzerland, to much acclaim. Besides featuring leading design galleries, such as Paris' Galerie Patrick Seguin, this year's hometown fair includes live showcases (where viewers can see how some pieces are actually made), panel discussions, and satellite exhibitions, including an especially whimsical show in which a hypnotist and a designer mine people's memories to recall favorite domestic pieces. And, for its annual Designer of the Year selection, the fair has crowned reputed Japanese artist Tokujin Yoshioka.
