United by a vivid, surreal aesthetic, three artists — Neil Bender, Elisabeth Condon, and Michelle Weinberg (also the show's curator) — have transformed the ArtCenter's gallery into a mythical city called Picturopolis. The artists imagine a once-artistic metropolis that has fallen prey to the dark side of capitalism and lapsed into decadence. Weinberg's inspired collages and paintings, Bender's pink-hued drawings, and Condon's far-reaching abstractions all provide an inventive and alternative take on contemporary urban culture.
