Diego Singh's new solo show at Snitzer is a departure from his early work, which was marked by a decidedly calm and subdued quality. This exhibit includes violent, large-scale canvases exploding with harsh yellows, oranges, and even neon pinks. The pieces are primarily abstract, but one can make out billy clubs, fluorescent tubes, and random plants. Singh has also created grotesque clay busts that are brashly spray-painted and recall the work of Paul McCarthy. Such an abrupt stylistic change is a welcome testament to this local artist's surprising range of talent.
