Film: Documentary United Nations Association Film Festival: True Whispers

Before John Woo's Windtalkers paid half-assed homage to the Navajo code-talkers of WWII, there was Valerie Red-Horse's full-on tribute to the men who, historians agree, saved untold millions of lives. That those brave souls were shuffled back to the reservation and denied their basic veteran benefits may not surprise you; that their spirituality kept them alive through both war and re-internment might. Also on the bill: God Sleeps in Rwanda, Kimberlee Acquaro and Stacy Sherman's Oscar-nominated survivor's story set in the aftermath of genocide.
