From his tenure as director of the Egyptian Cultural Center in Paris to his current position as Egypt's Minister of Culture, Farouk Hosni has worn many hats in the art world. His contemporary cultural views (see the controversy over his comment that the traditional Muslim veil is a "step backward for Egyptian women") carry over to his artistic style, which alternates between modernism and abstraction tinged with the color and light of his homeland. Following the success of its King Tut exhibit in 2005, the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale shows another collection of Egyptian art — this time in a contemporary context — with 20 Hosni paintings.
