Music: Rock/Pop Leon Russell

To say that raspy troubadour Leon Russell has "been around" would be a bit of an understatement. As a teen in the '50s, he played Tulsa's honky tonks; in the '60s, he sessioned for Phil Spector and the Byrds; in the '70s, he went solo with the support of heavies like George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Bill Wyman, and Charlie Watts. And if the hits "A Song for You" and "Tightrope" don't ring a bell, maybe "Superstar" will — as done by either Sonic Youth or the Carpenters. Still on the road after all these years, Russell is a living testament to the enduring power of song.
