Formed in the late '70s, the all-girl Go-Go's are probably best known for their Hot 100 hit "We Got the Beat" off 1981's Beauty and the Beat (the song was a major entry in the surf-rock canon). They also engineered one of the most brilliant covers in rock history for their album Vacation, which featured the band as a Cypress Gardens-style water-ski team. After breaking up in 1985, and birthing various side projects, the band regrouped in 2001 to record God Bless the Go-Go's and has since been touring steadily. The chicks with picks burn out punk pop with shades of new wave, plus a healthy dollop of camp.
