Prostitution is a pretty lucrative business in Southeast Asia. According to a recent study, it accounts for 2-14 percent of the gross domestic product in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand, while benefiting millions of workers who are involved directly and indirectly in the sex industry. In David Feingold's documentary Trading Women, the oldest profession also extends to countries like Burma, Laos, and China. Narrated by Angelina Jolie, Trading Women relentlessly probes the black-market industry — from the brothel owners and sex workers to the corrupt cops and politicos who give their tacit approval.
