Blackbooks is the the Fort Lauderdale-based artist duo Andy Black and Books IIII. They've already made a name for themselves by designing and building custom works for artists like Shepard Fairey and Dalek, as well as major corporations — but they've really outdone themselves for their debut solo exhibition at Spinello. Blackbooks' exquisite laser-cut wood sculptures are mesmerizing — an intricate amalgam of graffiti, text, and abstraction that showcases the duo's razor-sharp stenciling abilities and lyrical elegance. Their mixed-media paintings are also a highlight, and watch out for the decidedly malefic wooden baby crib filled with vicious metal spikes.
