Pulp-novel and magazine covers were crucial marketing tools of the '60s and '70s, sending the careers of small-time artists and illustrators skyrocketing. The images' sensational scenes — lusty lovers, conniving villains, monsters, and freakish sci-fi creations — often became as popular as the stories themselves, frequently prompting publishers to commission an artist for a book's cover before even hiring a writer. Harold Golen showcases his vast collection of vintage pulp art, along with several of the original paintings that graced the jackets of these twisted tales of romance, mystery, suspense, and horror.
