Bluegrass purists may balk at Yonder Mountain String Band's latest, self-titled album. Produced by Tom Rothrock (Foo Fighters, Elliott Smith, Beck, and, um, James Blunt), the album has the band's first infusion of drums and walks the poppier side of the bluegrass-rock line (although the amplified, distorted mandolin is pretty damn cool). That said, they haven't brought the drummer on tour, so expect the usual Appalachia-inspired dirges, Celtic drinking songs, soaring harmonies, and rapid-fire banjo, mandolin, and guitar picking.
