Film The King of Kings (1927)

Nicholas Ray's 1961 epic may air on TV every Easter, but Cecil B. DeMille's sweeping version of the Greatest Story Ever Told is the real miracle — and it's all done without saying a word. Then again, when a film is laden with imagery stolen straight from da Vinci and Doré, sequenced to quotes from the Bible, and directed by one of Hollywood's historically loudest mouths, there's really not much else to say. (Hell, by the time the Technicolor resurrection rolls around, even Jesus seems content to keep quiet.) Local band Alexander provide an atmospheric, acoustic-rock soundtrack.
