Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème is one of North America's most performed operas, second only to his Madama Butterfly — and it's not for nothing. The tale of a group of young friends struggling to stay alive and in love in the face of poverty and illness continues to tug irresistibly at audiences. Set in 1830s Paris, it doesn't have a Hollywood ending — just a tragic loss lamented in C-sharp minor. Smokin' Cuban-American soprano Elizabeth Caballero, who has been hailed in opera halls from San Francisco to New York, performs the starring role.
