Whoever said that they don't make 'em like they used to never got a peek inside the Steinway factory in Queens, where they've been making 'em the same way since 1853. The formula changed a bit when C.F. Theodor Steinway patented the one-piece, outer-and-inner rim in 1875; but the minute attention to detail remained, as it does to this day. In his documentary, producer/director Ben Niles tracks the making of a trademark concert grand, and proves that craftsmanship is still a duty bound in honor.
