Reading Patrick McGrath: Trauma

In Trauma, Manhattan shrink Charlie Weir not only can't make up his mind about the women in his life (his ex, his current, his mother), he can't even make up his mind about his mind — for instance, how far it is from the end of its tether. He has no problem with another inextricably linked part of himself, however, and he sticks it everywhere he can. But dysfunction is all in a day's work for this head case, just as it's all in a tall tale for his creator, Patrick McGrath, who reads from Trauma tonight; most likely, McGrath has more in common with his protagonist than he even dares to consider.
