Reading Edgar Prado: My Guy Barbaro

A couple of months ago at Broward's Gulfstream Park, Peruvian-born jockey Edgar Prado became one of 16 riders in horse-racing history to nab his 6,000th win. Still, it's a good bet that few of those races compared to riding his horse Barbaro to victory in the '06 Kentucky Derby — let alone Barbaro's subsequent meltdown at that year's Preakness. Ghost-written by Baltimore Sun sportswriter John Eisenberg and filled with the kind of poignancy only a jockey and his mount could truly understand, Prado's memoir My Guy Barbaro is both a tale of a great horse and a tribute to the sport of kings.
