Film Gunga Din (1939)

Old Hollywood sure knew how to make an adventure epic. Gunga Din is a film with a grand, historical sweep, following an Indian servant (Sam Jaffe) who works alongside three of Her Majesty's most daring officers (Cary Grant, Victor McLaglen, and Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) as they try and root out a murderous band of Thugees. It's as much about honor and courage as it is about humor and humility — director George Stevens made his early money photo-directing Laurel and Hardy and capturing seminal images of Dachau. Add the utter humanity of Rudyard Kipling's source material, and you've got a true classic.
