Film Wittgenstein (1993)

The last film Derek Jarman made before he went blind is a beautiful homage to Ludwig Wittgenstein. The great 20th-century philosopher was a family friend of Mahler and Brahms, a schoolmate of Hitler's, and a student of (and successor to) Bertrand Russell. Despite all that, Jarman's artsy film finds Wittgenstein spending his downtime watching Westerns, reading crime fiction, and working over philosophical theories with a wee green Martian.
