Film: Documentary The Other Side of the Mirror: Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival

Dylan's appearance at Newport in '65 is legendary, but the years preceding his electric period are some of the most exciting chapters in the singer/songwriter's life. Murray Lerner, documentarian of greats like Jimi, Miles, and the Who, recuts his semi-classic Festival (1967) into a three-act film, recounting just how the legend came to be. From Dylan's hayseed-like appearance in '63 through his black-clad swagger in '64 and the loud, proud reckoning of '65 — when "Maggie's Farm" and "Like a Rolling Stone" provoked that infamous avalanche of boos — Lerner lenses the icon as if his life depended on it. And of course, the music sings for itself.
