Local band the JeanMarie describe their sound as "grungy guitar, squiggle synth, simmering cymbal, and bass-drum boogie music" — and anyone who's spent time dancing at one of their shows can concur. Rather than suffer from the city's lack of a strong live-music scene, the quintet has taken advantage of the silence by writing distinctive, classically catchy pop songs devoid of any overwhelming influence. Tonight, the JeanMarie perform before the uninhibited hordes at its own unofficial weekly party, fittingly dubbed Sweat Fridays.
