Film Paranoid Park

Based on a Blake Nelson novel, Gus Van Sant's Paranoid Park tells the story of a quiet teenager named Alex and the repercussions that follow his experience at an infamous skate park. Dreamy yet compelling, the narrative — told from Alex's skewed perspective — comes together in bits and pieces to depict the life of an isolated teenager and his aching confusion. True to form, Van Sant effectively utilizes non-actors (recruited through MySpace) to create a lyrical and naturalistic work about contemporary youth. After the screening, stick around for a webcast Q&A between Van Sant and his former film teacher Marian Marzynski.
