Film Damn Yankees (1958)

Unlike the pop-metal supergroup of the same name, the movie Damn Yankees is supposed to be funny, and it is — as funny as a flick about a Faustian bargain can be, anyway. It's perfectly directed by George Abbott, imbued with an intelligent goofiness courtesy of Tab Hunter, and filled with sultry tunes sung by Gwen Verdon. As in the Broadway musical on which it's based, the story follows Joe Boyd, a Washington Senators fan who sells his soul to the devil in order to help his team defeat the Yankees. He also has to contend with temptress Lola, and since "Whatever Lola Wants" is whatever Lola gets, that's no easy feat.
