Books & Books - Coral Gables says…

Harry's a mess — he's paunchy, slouchy, and crippled by a coward's lack of confidence. After his wife dies from a needless surgical procedure, he gets to add "wracked with guilt" to his catalog of personal shortcomings. He carries on in his misery until he meets a 22-year-old waitress named Molly, at which point purpose seeps back into his so-called life. Sarvas, known for tending the lit blog The Elegant Variation (and as nemesis of former New Times scribbler Steve Almond), shows that if there is more than one act to be had in American lives, the second is that much sweeter when the first is especially poorly performed.
