Music J.A.M.

This weekly anything-goes, almost-anyone-can-play jam session is well into its second year at Transit Lounge. Every few months, the night's host changes; the event is at its best when conducted by a firm but open-minded ringmaster, one who's down for any type of tune, as long as the solos aren't self-indulgent and the integrity of the ensemble is respected. After all, the jam — and not an individual musician — is always the star, and any performer who forgets that rule gets yanked offstage. Every Monday, amateurs and all-stars alike gather to trade licks, bounce ideas off each other, and make up masterpieces on the spot.
